Growing Information
Transplanting your Aswad Eggplant seedlings is a breeze! These eggplants prefer warm weather, so make sure to choose a sunny spot in your garden. If you're in a cooler climate, don't worry - a greenhouse or a row cover can be your saving grace. As for watering, consistency is key! Too much variation in moisture can lead to poor fruit set. Pruning isn't a must but can help focus the plant's energy on producing those big, delicious fruits.
'Nir’s Take'
“As much as I’m a fan of miniature plants and minis, this one is the opposite where these eggplants are rather large massive each one can grow up to like 3 pounds. So when you get a good one and it’s ripe, you only need one to do whatever it is that you want to do in the kitchen. These are easy and just something really good to grill with so I found these that they’re pretty good with the heat so they produce really well in the Jersey summers.”
Cooking & Eating Ideas
The Aswad Eggplant is a grilling superstar, but its sweet and tender flesh also makes it perfect for baking. Try it in a traditional Middle Eastern baba ganoush, or simply roast it with a drizzle of olive oil for a healthy and delicious side dish.
