Growing Information

The Death Spiral comes to life best under warm conditions. It loves basking in full sun and relishes rich, well-draining soil. Start indoors 8–12 weeks before the final frost, and once the temperatures stay above 65 F, it's time to introduce this sun-lover to the great outdoors. If your region is cooler, don't worry, it thrives in a large container too! Remember to give your Death Spiral peppers consistent moisture, but avoid waterlogged soil. And don't forget, these peppers love to show off their height, often reaching up to 4 feet, so give them a stake or cage for support.

'Nir’s Take'

I don’t know how you cannot want to grow a plant called a Death Spiral. The name itself drew me in eight years ago, and it was the first super hot pepper I grew. Since then, I’ve been growing it every year. It’s super gnarly looking, and once they start growing, they do really well. I find not giving it too much water at the end works best. These plants can be grown in containers, but I prefer raised beds. Their intense floral flavor makes them perfect for hot sauces. It’s just one of those plants that you have to have in your garden.

Cooking & Eating Ideas

Death Spiral peppers are the secret ingredient that transforms your homemade hot sauces and spicy salsas into culinary masterpieces. Dried and ground into a powder, they add a fiery kick to your spice blends. Remember, a little goes a long way with this pepper powerhouse!
