Growing Information
Your Hungarian Wax Pepper journey begins with transplantation. This pepper thrives in a variety of climates and loves full sun and slightly acidic to neutral, well-draining soil (pH 6.0–7.0). Once your seedlings have two true leaves, gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions over a week or two - this process, known as hardening off, ensures your peppers will be robust and ready to thrive outside. After the last frost, transplant them outdoors when temperatures consistently reach at least 65 F. Remember to space plants about 14-18 inches apart in beds or large containers with soil rich in compost for best results.
'Nir’s Take'
“I have an unwavering connection to this Hungarian heirloom. I’ve been growing the Hungarian Wax every year since I started gardening. I look for plants that are easy to care for and will produce a lot of fruit for the space they take up. This pepper checks all those boxes - it’s super prolific, and the versatility is commendable. There’s nothing quite like picking a few of these, stuffing and roasting them, or just throwing them on a pizza fresh out of the backyard. It adds a slice of freshness to your meal, even when you’re ordering takeout!”
